Sustainable Holiday Gifting: Makeup and products!

Here are some other up-scale Wishlist-worthy makeup and products from companies that also have nice sustainability tenants!

So I bought some REN tester-size products off of Depop earlier this year and I really liked the products (In case you are curious I tried the Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream and Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm).

Their price tag is a sight to see, but they have some sustainable-oomph to follow their digits. There also seem to be several off these products on Depop if you’re looking for a discount! They have clear goals when it comes to their sustainability progression including a pledge to become Zero Waste by 2021. Their bottles are made with Ocean Plastic, tubes from post-consumer-recyled plastic and the containers are designed for circular recycling. REN also hint that they have some other things in the works if you want to learn more about them here.

A much more cost-effective product is a loofah! I don’t know about you, but when I was younger. I always used these plastic-y loofahs I got at drug stores (like Rite Aid…good times!).

But as with many things, nature has already done it better! I discovered plant-based versus these plastic based loofahs, that are by-nature zero waste and function just as well or better! You can find them in a variety of places, most likely a health food store but if not, then online for sure. They are made from a plant similar to a courgette (zucchini) and dried! Considering it is a dried plant, the loofah holds up really well, but if you ever get tired of it/want to replace it you can rest-assured it will decompose.

Some other products I have found and have wanted to try are Hairmud hair care and the Typology Skincare range.

Manucurist does eco-nail polish, which I also found and bought off Depop, and I found it was really nice to use! To buy new it is relatively expensive, but to know that it is free from harmful chemicals usually added to nail polish, is also worth it. In case you’re interested there are still a couple colours of Manucurist on Depop.

I found some super sweet, absolutely sustainable lip balms recently by a woman named Andrea Garland! She fills compacts with lip balm that is then refillable by her! So when you run out, you ship it back and then it is refilled to repeat the zero-waste cycle.

Lastly, Soak Sunday is a brand for reclaiming the bath routine. Soak Sunday has some beautiful products with bath soaks and salts perfect for gifts and entirely sustainable packaging.
